The "DJANGO" vehicle is one of the results of an innovation exercise called JAZZENGINEERING (www.jazzengineering.org) that I created for high school age apprentices who have worked for me after school during the last 4 years. The main concept is to combine a traditional electric drive consisting of a main battery bank, motor controller, electric motor and chain drive with an accessory electric pedal powered generator. The adjustable work load of the pedals can charge the main motor battery or the accessory battery. They can also control the speed of the vehicle.

We show 3 ways to make nitric acid based on two different chemical approaches both of which can be done using easily accessible materials. Warning: The procedures in this video produce large quantities of toxic gases and deal with highly corrosive acids. All work must be performed in a fume hood with proper safety equipment. And all apparatus must be glass to withstand the acids. Chemically, nitric acid is made by bubbling nitrogen dioxide into water. So the objective in this approach is to generate nitrogen dioxide. This can be done by reacting hydrochloric acid, a nitrate salt and copper. Around 80grams of sodium nitrate, over 30 grams of copper and 100mL of hydrochloric acid (37% 12M) are the quantities needed. The exact amount isn't critical. For usable concentrations, the amount of water being converted should be small, around 20-50mL. Any source of nitrate is usable including potassium nitrate, ammonium nitrate and even nitrate-based fertilizers. Two approaches are shown in the video. In the first approach three containers, such as jars are place inside each other to force the gas to go into the water. This is an unofficial Atomontage Engine technology preview/video-blog #1 (part 1 of 3). Sorry for the low quality -- it was shot with a video-camera. The video demonstrates some of the real-time capabilities of the engine. The static scene was generated in AE built-in content generators. It was generated with 16bit colors and without any super-sampling as well as without multi-sampling. All that resulted in the numerous small-scale artifacts. The generation took about 10 hours on two cores of an Intel(R) P7550 CPU so the generator is obviously not well optimized. Atomontage Engine renders complex scenes on per-pixel geometry details in real-time. The renderer is accelerated and the engine provides some of the effects that are common in GPU-based solutions. Some of the basic features of the engine are presented here including Depth-of-Field effect which blurs the voxels in close-ups, the Bloom effects which reduces apparent voxelization in views with a bright background, as well as the cast soft shadow and a proof-of-concept simple indirect illumination solution.
